Gibson is not known for the quality of their nylon strung guitars. That setup looks like it offers the worst of both worlds.

So there is no real metal fret from what I see. It looks like it is all carved in bone. Could this be a replacement done by a luthier?

it is very ungainly looking. the only "advantage" i can guess about is that the break angle is distributed over a larger radius, thus the strings might be less likely to break or bind at the nut?

I've seen photos of similiar arrangements, usually associated with a compensated nut.
It's a little easier to get the top of a rail down to exact height than it is to get the bottom of a slot perfect.
I don't see any reason for it on a nylon string guitar.

I've never seen that on any Gibson guitar, but Classics are thin on the ground.
Sure doesn't look like Gibson work.
